GOOG’s sell-off today seems unwarranted. The stock’s currently under $527 after hours. If anything, their position has been strengthened by the MicroHOO debacle. Growth is still strong like bull, especially internationally. Youtube and G’s Enterprise Apps are still in their infancy, tons of potential. Yet the stock is down 4% […]

Everybody knows Google and Microsoft are at war. Microsoft wants to be a big player in search, and Google is making progress with their productivity-software offering. They’re both investing billions. Seems like a good match-up at first glance.
But the odds are heavily stacked in Google’s favor. The only reason Microsoft has […]

GOOG is looking cheap at these levels, closed at $574 today. That’s down from a high of $747 last year. No big earnings disappointments, no revenue shortfalls, nada. Just a crazy market. Forward P/E is only 27! WTF? Yahoo’s forward P/E is like 40, and their growth sucks […]

Google’s rising stock price is seriously beefing up the holdings of Google.org. During Google’s IPO, one percent (3 million shares) were set aside for the organization’s charitable arm. That’s worth over $2 billion based on Google stock price today. They also donated $90 million in cash to kick things off.
On top […]

I found some pretty juicy edits that Occidental Petroleum (aka OXY) made to their Wikipedia page. I used Virgil Griffith’s awesome Wikiscanner to find them, of course. One edit last month, made from an Occidental IP address, whitewashed 5 scandals & controversies from their page in one session:
Occidental’s Cleanup Job - Shows […]

How is it that billion $ companies have utterly inept PR departments? Etrade just announced, in a completely asinine way, that they’re ending their 12b-1 fee refund program. The program basically refunded a small percentage of the marketing fees charged by mutual funds.
Here’s how they decided to trumpet this improvement to clients, in […]

At first I was a little pissed-off when I saw people giving Calacanis the attention, linkbait gratification, and press that he is not-so-subtly seeking for Mahalo.com.
But I’ve come to the realization that it doesn’t matter how much free publicity Mahalo gets. It’s a flawed concept, and it’s not going to work. […]

I’ve been arguing with people over Google’s (GOOG) share price since it was in the 200s. Their earnings and revenue growth has been spectacular. When earnings season comes around, it’s not a question of if Google will beat analyst expectations, but by how much. They’re also poised to steal a significant amount […]

The arrogance of a recent article by Tim Middleton instantly set off my BS detector. He titled his MSN Money piece ” Just beating the market is too easy”.
Every investor wants to beat the market. However, the fact is that only around 15% of professional mutual fund managers match or best the returns […]

Google is testing new background colors for Adwords, nothing new there. What’s interesting is how they’re doing it. All my queries from Firefox are getting new yellow Adwords backgrounds, while IE searches are getting traditional blue backgrounds. I tested ~20 different keywords, alternating the browser every time. The results were consistent: […]
